The U.S. federal government national centers established in the health sector in the years 1990 through their Ministry of Health and Human Services. Since then, other new systems from the Centers of Excellence emerged, including a system of medical centers under the supervision of the U.S. Veterans Administration and a system developed by insurance companies, especially Cigna HealthCare. Other systems exist as well, and the care consumer is wise to the history, development and certification reasons to explore what doctors or "center of excellence." They are not all equal.

The Cigna selection for "excellence" is based on a points system, which looks at
1) the positive patient outcomes and
2) cost of treatments are offered in 19 different categories of healthcare in hospitals and medical centers. The system also includes the health care institutions with a total score,
Individuals insured by Cigna gain access to the individual scores for each treatment group and the general hospital in the CIGNA Hospital Value Profile Tool on the website of the company to control. Patients can choose the Cigna Center of Excellence, that feeling is best for them, or select a medical center or hospital that is not a Cigna Center for Excellence.
All this is a bit like the one recommended (Certified) auto repair program and can help health care consumers in a way similar to the auto repair help consumers.
The impressive Veterans Administration system of the Centers of Excellence (COE) is well organized and seems designed to provide and develop the most accurate, results-oriented, up-to-date and efficient solutions for health care to American veterans. This system is for U.S. veterans.
Each of the individual is developing a unique research agenda. are all connected to a local VA Medical Center. Each COE with local universities and schools of Public Health / medical care colleges.

Telemedicine is one of the innovations in research in 2010. Chronic conditions, communications, cultural influences and healthcare efficiency are all focused topic in this COE.

88 Minority Health Centers of Excellence
Minority Health COE facilities are a separate set of institutions accredited by the National Center on Minority Health and differences. These centers are designed to help an American, Puerto Rican and U.S. Virgin Island institutive to find and fix health care disparities that result from the patient age, gender, race, ethnicity and other demographic data, and, further spread encourage cultural competence in delivering health care.
Since 2002, the NCMHD Centers of Excellence established 88. The program initially had three categories: Related Resource Centers (off), and extensive exploratory Centers Centers. Using these three different funding may NCMHD to the level of the playing field between institutions to help with different experience in biomedical research and to utilize the various skills and capabilities of the nation geographically and culturally diverse settings.
From 2002 to early 2010, the NCMHD Centers of Excellence and 88 developed partnerships with local higher education (including the traditional black and tribal) in 31 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.
In 2007, the NCMHD COE program was established 12 new exploratory and comprehensive CoEs and continued support for 25 previously funded NCMHD CoEs.
