Owning Your Illness

We do much better when we own what is ours.If an illness were not ours, it would not be presenting itself to us.That's why relying on insurance coverage can turn out to be a double-edged sword. I have a family member who is a doctor for an insurance company and boasts how he manages people's health care/treatments. Mind you he has never talked to much less ever seen the patients he manages.

So many people will do everything they can to disown their dis-ease figuring they can get a doctor to prescribe a purple pill and everything will be okay -- that the illness will disappear and they won't have to deal with it. But dis-ease presents itself because there is something that needs to be dealt with and what needs to be dealt with are patterns of behavior.

I will give you just one example of a woman with multiple chemical sensitivities. She has literally barred herself away from the rest of the world because every experience she has dealing with people "out there" winds up being an utter disappointment. What came first, the chicken or the egg? The illness or the pattern that thinking people aren't worthy?

Matter follows energy.

The body is wise and when we are sick, it tries to find a way to unload toxins that will keep the rest of the body working. An example might be migraines. If you take a pill to get rid of the headache, the toxic dumping then will occur elsewhere, perhaps an inflamed joint. The body is one step ahead of you. It doesn't use language -- it uses symptoms to wake us up. Symptoms are pointers nudging us to take care of business, to own what is happening, not to turn it over to someone else.
